A face-changing performer

变脸 (Biàn Liǎn, or “Face-Changing”) is a Chinese dramatic art, in which performers change their masks instantly, while moving their arms and heads.

It is said that only 200 people know how to perform this art, and it’s a secret that is passed from father to son. It might be one of the best kept magic tricks ever.

The changing is achieved by quickly tearing off, rubbing, or blowing away a mask to reveal another, and the artists can use more than 30 masks in one performance.

变脸’s world is reflected in Tian-Ming Wu’s ”The King of Masks

I just finished watching Pioneer One’s first season and it’s awesome. The story is about an U.F.O. that crashes on Canada and how a group of U.S. Department of Defense agents try to discover what it is while the official posture is that it’s related to a terrorist attack.

Its awesomness is not only about the story, but also about how its creators developed it: They filmed the first episode and asked for donations on VODO until they reached their goal. Today, we can watch 6 great episodes, and expect a second season.

Probot is a project by Dave Ghrol (yeah, the almost-famous Nirvana drummer and cool Foo Fighters guitarist/singer) in which he invited heavy metal musicians to complete some instrumentals he had recorded many years before (with their personalities/styles in mind, BTW).

The following, in which Lemmy plays the bass and sings (?) is the most popular song in the album:

As mainstream as they might be today, SOAD is one of the bands that can blow your head off. The first time I listened to this track, I was listening to the radio while trying to sleep… an hour later I was still trying to get the rhythm out of my mind:

Band Of Horses - Ode to LRC

Even though I must admit “Cease to Begin” is the only album by “Band of Horses” (an U.S. indie band) that I like, I really think you should listen at least a couple of their songs. ‘Ode to LRC’ is one of my favourites:

If you liked it, give this tunes a try: “Marry Song”, “No One’s Gonna Love You”, “Detlef Schrempf”
